It has been nearly six months since the last post regarding the demise of South Coast Rail. I can gladly report that the layout was purchased and will live on in some form down in Australias capital - the city of Canberra.
I have seen photos of its second life but some modifications were required to enable the layout to be able to fit its new footprint. I have noticed that the trestle bridge has already found a new location. The scenery has still to be developed around the site.
Early this year I was approached by the editor of the Australian Model Railway Magazine requesting some photos of the layout for a Gallery page in the magazine. By this time the layout was being dismantled but I was able to supply a photo of locomotive 8A and a mixed train behind it on the Thomson River bridge. It was side lit and the river complete with the fisherman on the banks of the river. Then much to my surprise as I was reading through the April issue of the magazine there was the photo I sent in across two pages. So this is the swansong photo of the layout and I like to think a fitting end to my years of narrow gauge modelling.
Progress has been slowly made to repurpose the shed into two new areas that will soon accomodate both a HO rail layout and a smaller traction layout. (Just to keep me having something to think about)
This may be the last post for South Coast Rail and now all the energy will be divided between - East Coast Rail and South Coast Traction Company.
Thanks for all your comments and support over the years, I have made a lot of new friendships, such is the nature of our hobby.
